From a technical and craft point of view it is first-rate; from its standing in the canon of the two directors, it is minor. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 26, 2007 Full Review Grindhouse | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal The whole thing runs a bit over three hours, goes by swiftly, contains countless film references and includes hilarious fake trailers. M R Grindhouse is fantastic and the concept well executed. Both films are very entertaining on their own but better with the overall presentation. They are B films but with master storytelling which I hope there is more to find of somewhere. The trailers alone are worth the watch. Not recommended for those who aren't fans of gore as Tom Savini's work is found throughout the films. Pretty Good stuff.Rating: 9/10 Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/16/24 Full Review Marc Z This is everything you would expect from this team of filmmakers. It is a campy, violent, unique homage' to the low budget horror films of the 1960's and 1970's. Everything about it fits the bill, including the way in which it is shot. A purposefully weak plot. A script filled with campy lines. Characters that are more caricatures. It is all so well done. What is also amazing is how this film is so ahead of the Zombie craze that followed with series like "The Walking Dead" and movies like, "Last Train to Busan". This has a terrific cast, all who are in on the joke. The special effects are great. Harder to make in 2007 than it would be today. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/24/24 Full Review Ian this was such a great experience i loved it. both movies are good! i like planet terror a little more than death proof but again they're both really good. Planet Terror is an awesome Zombie flick with a great aesthetic and amazing characters. Death Proof is a fun but weird mess of a movie that feels like it's missing something and will have you saying by the end of the movie "that was it?" i wish there was more told to us about stuntman mike but i guess that's just left to the imagination. if you haven't seen either of these movies and want to watch them i would highly suggest watching them together in grindhouse other than then as separate movies. the shorts before and in between the two movies were mostly solid as well. my favorite being the thanksgiving short which just became a full length film. honestly this was great and the 3 hours flew by like it was nothing. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/07/23 Full Review Bob A Planet terror is great!!! Absolutely love it. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/03/23 Full Review StephenPaul C The greatest 03 hours: and 11 minutes ever of horror!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/18/23 Full Review Red T An All Time Classic and a Love Letter to the Exploitations films of New Hollywood. This is a really unique experience. These films are there own are solid but together with the trailers and themes they are paying homage to all have a unique synergy to them. The only flaw is Death Proof's pacing does not keep up until the final 20 minutes with the franticness of Planet Terror which is the better film of the 2. It's still well done but very heavy on boring exposition which can feel weirdly pintless but intentionally done so as well, probably to poke fun at films of that era doing the same with bad pointless expose. This can feel pointless but never bad if that makes sense, but the ending stands right with Planet Terror and is probably the best part of the package and ends it with a bang. The editing, trailers, self awareness, all goes perfectly together and honestly I can't think of anything else like this especially in the new millennium. Everyone as long as they have a strong stomach should give this a try and see both together. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
